JUST A THOUGHT… Humility Before Honor

Proverbs 18:12 states, “Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” (esv)

Before a downfall our heart can be haughty, we can at times think too highly of ourselves, I’m sure we’ve all been there at one time or another.

The condition mentioned by Solomon is no accident, neither is it an occasional misstep. The haughtiness the writer has in mind is an unchecked narcissistic character trait.

Humility truly comes before honor. Make no mistake about it, the wisdom and power behind our fruitfulness and favor will be found in our heartfelt desire to please God and not ourselves.

History is replete with the accounts of men and women who accomplished great things for God and countless blessings for humanity.  The source of their effectiveness is found in the high priority they placed on the Creator for His Glory, and not their own.

God has often granted honor to those who may not have known Him, yet, they found favor in His eyes because of the high values they held, and their selfless service for the betterment of society.

The truth of Proverbs 18:12 stands the test of time. History records the humiliating downfall of gifted leaders enamored with their own delusions of grandeur.

Take note of the honor that came upon leaders who saw their role as servants to humanity for the greater good, and follow their example… It’s Just a Thought. -JSP
