90 Days of Prayer Day Forty-Four
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Moses has come to the end of his life, and here he’s reminding the people that God has already given them victories in the past, and it will be no different on the other side of the Jordan River. Moses drawing on his own experience with God, assures this new generation that God has not left them, and never will.
Be strong, courageous, and unafraid, because God’s presence goes them. Moses then calls Joshua before the people and says; “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance.” What an assignment!
Have No Fear
Joshua and the people had to face both fear and uncertainty. Heading across the Jordan, this untested army would be without the only leader they’ve ever known. Joshua would now take over for Moses – those are some sandals to fill, no easy act to follow. How would you feel if you were one of the people? How would you feel if you were Joshua? They were all ordinary people with an extraordinary assignment just like you and I.
God Goes With You
You must never forget God’s promise; “the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” That promise appears over and over again throughout the Old and New Testaments. God never changes and He does not play favorites! Whatever you may be facing today, remind yourself that God goes with you.
Moses too was once overwhelmed, and must have felt alone and forgotten. He asked God “who will you send with me?” The Lord replied; “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (See Exodus 33:12-17). God told Joshua the same thing in Joshua 1:5-9. Kings, Prophets, and Priests were told the same thing. You and I are no different!
God is Within You
God told Moses that His Presence would go with him and give him rest. Jesus told His disciples He would be with them always. (Matthew 28:20). The Apostle tells the Church “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). We’re told in John 14:15-18 that we’ve received the Holy Spirit to be with us and in us forever! So, wherever you go “God is.”
You’re never alone, never forgotten. God is always with you and in you! Read what David discovered about God’s Presence in Psalm 139:7-12. The fact is you cannot escape God’s Presence! He is always in you, always with you, always watching over you 24/7. Not for a second of any day, do you escape His notice!
Always remind yourself, that He knows your thoughts, He’s knows everything you’re feeling, He knows where you are. Let His Presence give you rest, and Be Encouraged. -JSP
