Count Your Blessings

90 Days of Prayer Day Forty-One

Psalm 119:13
“With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.”

Something powerful happens when you intentionally consider the words that God has already spoken, and write them down. Prayer becomes a most edifying experience when God’s Word has taken hold of your heart, your mind and flows from your mouth.

David took an estimate of God’s Word while he was praying. The word “recount” here is to recall, or “to count again and again.” In recounting or taking an estimate of those things God has said, David was writing an account (a ledger) of things spoken by God. Certainly a mathematical exercise of eternal value!

Ledger

The Ledger of Truth

In accounting you have a ledger which tells you where you’ve been, where you stand now, and what your prospects are for the future. Imagine the benefit of having a ledger of blessings and of God’s words to you; a ledger that enables you to see where you’ve been, where you stand now, and what your prospects are for the future from God’s perspective.

Are you in the habit of writing an account of those things God has done, and spoken to you? Have you experienced the strengthening of your faith by rehearsing these? Faith comes from pondering God’s truth until it becomes real in your heart. Imagine the blessings in your time with God, if you began writing an account of all He has said and done for you.

Consider Psalm 139:17-18; “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand…”  Taking an estimate of what God’s words are worth, and how much they mean to you, have vast implications for your future.

The Balance sheet of Blessings

The balance of Blessings are always in your favor! Make a habit of recording God’s blessings and His words to you. Practice speaking them back to Him in prayer. Thank Him for His promises and your past victories. Meditate on His Word until you become one with His ideas.  Experience the joy of the Spirit lifting your emotions and strengthening your faith, as you see the balance sheet of blessings tilt in your favor. You would need a calculator to tally the benefits of His grace (review Psalm 139:17-18).

Ask the Holy Spirit’s help in writing your own account of God’s Words, let those words bring His will into view. Align yourself with God’s plans for you, Think on them, act on them, speak them in prayer with all confidence, and Be Encouraged. – JSP
