Mysteries In Plain Sight

90 Days of Prayer Day-Forty

Psalm 119:18
“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”

The wonders of God’s created order are so vast, its mysteries so deep, David asks for help just to wrap his mind around some of it.  David wasn’t the only one to pray this when thinking about God’s master plan for all of creation, and our place in the grand scheme of things.

I have to believe that Jeremiah must have been doing the same thing when God tells him; “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3). That sentence alone makes me want pray “open my eyes!”

David’s words can be accurately rendered “uncover my eyes that I may look on extraordinary things from your law” What good does it do us reading and pondering God’s Word, if its truths are still hidden from us? I sometimes feel like the Ethiopian of Acts 8:30-31, when asked by Philip “do you understand what you are reading?” He replies, “how can I unless someone explains it to me?” Enter the Holy Spirit, uncovering our eyes to see new depths of truths, we’d never see (much less understand) without Him!

God’s Word is Filled with Extraordinary Things

David knew there were extraordinary truths in God’s word, which he still hadn’t seen and understood. The Scriptures are filled with mysteries beyond our capacity to imagine. The Bible is a world of wonders in itself. Paul gave the Corinthians something extraordinary to think about: “we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began” (1 Corinthians 2:7).

Paul didn’t stop there, he continues; “However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10).

God’s Holding Inside Information For You

God has stored up wisdom, knowledge and understanding for you (Proverbs 2:6), He doesn’t mind you asking for it, in fact He invites you to (James 1:5). If you belong to Christ, He has made known to you the mystery of his will… which he purposed in Christ. You’re called to take part in bringing unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ! (see Ephesians 1:9-10).

God wants you to have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that you may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”(Colossians 2:2-3).  Make your prayer; “uncover my eyes that I may look on extraordinary things from your word.” Ask Him about your part in the grand scheme of things. If you ask in faith, He will tell you great and unsearchable things you didn’t know, and you’ll Be Encouraged! -JSP
