“In leadership, change is not merely a frequent occurrence but the singular constant that shapes the very fabric of operations and strategies.” – Tammy Grabowski
Leading through change requires mobilizing and motivating people toward a new direction. It requires supplying our people with all the information they need to understand the change and the guidance they’ll need to adapt to the challenges.
We’re responsible for understanding how to navigate change
Our highest priority is correctly reading and effectively adapting to cultural shifts that impact our organizations. Motivating, mobilizing, and navigating fluidity is an art form in which efficient leaders and managers must be adept.
Forbes Contributor Cicely Simpson states, “If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that you can’t predict what’s on the horizon. There will always be something new and unexpected waiting just around the corner. As a leader, you must be ready to work with whatever you’re given to come to the best solution. In other words, you’ve got to be adaptable. I believe it’s the single most important trait great leaders possess.” (1)
Being adaptable may be the starting point; getting our teams on board in a timely manner can be a challenge. We cannot make too much of the collective buy-in from our people. Mark Cole advised leaders to “Consider these three things as you seek to help your people accept change:
- Slow down! If you run too far ahead of your people, it creates an information gap…
- Communicate clearly and simply. How do you know when your message is clear and simple enough?
- Make time for your people to process ideas. I understand this struggle very well. You see a need for change, so you strategize and analyze for hours until you come up with a good solution, and now you’re ready for action…” (2)
Do you need clarity when it comes to generative AI?
World renowned futurist Benard Barr writes, “The Boston Consulting Group asserts that “to be an industry leader in five years, you need a clear and compelling generative AI strategy today.” AI and machine learning have been making waves for more than a decade and are thoroughly integrated into many of the products and services we buy from major companies. Now, generative AI puts the power to create and intelligently automate the customer experience – as well as internal operations – in the hands of nearly every organization.” (3)
In Closing,
Sarah Clayton remarks, “Few things are more important during a change event than communication from leaders who can paint a clear and confidence-inspiring vision of the future.”
