The Dwelling Place

The Dwelling Place
Psalm 91:1
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
The Psalmist makes a definitive statement of the blessings associated with dwelling in God’s Presence. I’m reminded of the exchange between God and Moses in Exodus 33:22 where God says “When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.” Dwelling in the shelter of the Most High God is an amazing place to be.
The Dwelling Place
God has prepared a dwelling place for you, a place where you and He can meet together. Your place is found in Christ the rock of your salvation, the shelter of the Most High, where you can enjoy unbroken fellowship with Him. This is the place where you feel most at home.

Your home is where you live; it’s the place where all your possessions are stored. Your dwelling is part of your identity. Everything you have placed in your home says something about you. This is where you are most comfortable and where you spend most of your life. This is a great illustration of your dwelling place with God.

The Place of Rest
Many times having a home is referred to as “having a roof over your head. Here is another excellent example of dwelling in God’s Presence. Resting in the shadow of the Almighty is like having a roof over your head.

God covered Moses with His hand while He passed by to protect him from the powerful effects of His Glory. God will cover you and protect you in the same way by hiding you in Christ.

The Psalmist in Psalm 63:7 says I sing in the shadow of your wings.” Dwelling in the shadow of the Most High is also the place where you’ll express yourself to God in song. Praise and worship come naturally to you when you are resting secure in His Presence, He is the roof over your head.

In this particular Psalm David is with God through the night thinking of all He has done for him. He can no longer contain himself and breaks into song in the middle of the night because of all the help he has received from God. Have you ever had this experience while dwelling under the shadow of the Most High?

Feel at home coming into God’s Presence at any time of the day or night. His dwelling place is found in any room of your house. In fact dwelling with God is like having a roof over your head where ever you may be.

Make God’s Presence your home and not just a place you visit from time to time. Live in the shelter of His Presence. Whether you awake in the morning or the middle of the night you are still under the shadow of the Almighty.

Be free to express your gratitude for His covering and His blessings, and Be Encouraged. – JSP
