Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Jesus came into the world as the light that brings light to all people. His Kingdom is the light of truth, and the Church stands as the city on the hill burning brightly at night giving light to a world in darkness.
As a believer you have been born again into the Kingdom of light to walk with God who lives in unapproachable light. The redeemed are children of light, John writes “…if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” 1 John 1:7.
What an awesome revelation and privileged responsibility we have as the leaders of truth to partner with God in His business of world redemption. Think for a moment about the power of light in the natural world. The smallest flame from a match stick will become the focal point even in the darkest room. It is a truth that darkness cannot overpower light.
Just as the light from a match changes the focal point in a dark room, so does your genuine biblical Christian lifestyle become the focal point of those around you. Do not underestimate the power of your influence on those who know you as you continue to walk with God in the light of His Word.
You; by the nature of your new birth, cannot be hidden from those around you any more than the city that stands on the hill at night can be hidden from those in the darkness below.
Let Your Light Shine
In Matthew 5:16 we read that “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Proper Christian conduct always draws attention, and solid Christian character always carries influence.
Think of the influence you will have on all who know you if you intentionally lived like Christ in your daily affairs. Use the Sermon on the Mount as the template for your lifestyle. Imagine the impact you will have if you made the golden rule your guide for all your relationships.
You are God’s Letter Written to People
People are watching you as you walk with God in the light of His Word. They are making a mental note of how you conduct yourself in all kinds of situations. You are the only Christ that they can see; your life is like an open book that they read from day to day. in 2 Corinthians 3:2 Paul writes “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.”
Begin today to live intentionally as the light of the world that you are. As God’s living letter to those around you ask yourself; what have you been giving them to read? Walk in the light of God’s Word daily, be the personification of what is written. As an open book read by all, let your life be a best seller for the Kingdom, and Be Encouraged. -JSP
