90 Days of Prayer – Day Twenty Three

“The Open Rewards of Secret Prayer”

Matthew 6:6
“…When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

Prayer is the heart and soul of all we do. It’s been said that “prayer is to the believer what breathing is to the lungs.” Without genuine communication with God, there is no life, no pulse; the believer’s effectiveness is dead on arrival. Jesus made it quite clear in the fifteenth chapter of John’s gospel, when he said “apart from me you can do nothing.”
Make no mistake about it, the wisdom and power behind your fruitfulness will be found in your time spent alone with God. History is replete with the accounts of men and women who accomplished great things for God. The source of their effectiveness is found in the high priority they placed on being alone with God.
All your efforts are of no eternal value without this vital communication with heaven. We read in the New Testament record that believers were inspired and guided in prayer. It was in prayer that God shaped their values, sharpened their gifts and talents, and developed their character. Their vision, their planning, and their success in planting Churches; were born in their time alone with God.

The powerful men and women of God throughout history were no different than you or I. They simply spent time alone with God, asking questions and receiving answers, pouring out their hearts and receiving wisdom, and the effectiveness of what transpired when they were in prayer (alone or in groups) was plainly seen by all.
So follow Jesus into your prayer room, shut the door, and what transpires between you and God in private, will cause God to reward you openly.
Be Encouraged!
