Colossians 4:2
“Devote yourselves (plural) to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;”
E. M. Bounds wrote “Prayer unites with God’s purposes and lays itself out to secure those purposes.” God’s purpose has always been for the welfare of the cities in every nation.
We can see from our passage that Paul believed in the synergy between praying together and the purpose of God. Paul was a great believer in the power of prayer and encouraged the Church to establish a lifestyle of personal and united prayer and intercession.
The Church in all ages is most effective when making much use of this amazing source of power. Cities have always benefited from the Church whose social activities were conceived, planned and driven by persistent powerful united praying.
Even when God’s people were exiled due to their disobedience, God cared for them and instructed them to pray for the peace of the city holding them captive, as seen in Jeremiah 29:7.
“And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace. For thus says the LORD of hosts”
Nothing compares to the effectiveness of corporate plans or public policies that are being powered by the Church’s engine of persistent united praying aligned with God’s purpose for the cities. …Just a thought
