90 Days of Prayer Day Sixty-Nine
Zechariah 12:10
““And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me…”
Have you ever gotten “stuck” in prayer, you just can’t seem to get started? You don’t know how or what to pray, maybe you had a difficult day or week, and you feel far from God. You’re hindered from praying because of some guilt you may be feeling. You just can’t seem to “look on Him” with any degree of confidence.
Breaking through can seem difficult, but it’s really not once we learn how to manage our emotions. When you think of it, doesn’t it come down to “I’m not feeling it?” Whatever the reason, a mustard seed size of simple faith is the answer. You can trust God for help.
God’s Got This
God’s people were stuck, they too had all sorts of issues, and no shortage of opposition. Yet, God assured them that deliverance would come. Zechariah prophesied deliverance, restoration, and help from above. This happened in their day, and would for everyone once Christ the Messiah appeared. Now all people are enabled to “look on Him.”
This was a God initiated gift of grace that forgives all sin, and delivers from all enemies. It begins with providing access for all who need to connect with Him. The spirit of grace and supplication works in our mind, a knowledge of sin and guilt, points to the solution, and enables us to (“look on Him”) pray through to victory. I told you, God’s got this.
You Have Been Given All You Need
“I will pour out on” is God’s doing not yours. You already have the Spirit of grace in you and on you. In Christ God has show you His favor. The Holy Spirit fills you with joy in His presence, helping you to be motivated for praying what needs to be prayed (Romans 8:26-27). This favor restores confidence and give direction, getting you “unstuck” so you can pray.
The Spirit who lives in you guides you into all truth, illuminating your mind, and revealing within your heart everything you need to know at that moment. By grace, you’re enabled to see clearly what’s been hindering you from having fellowship with God, and praying freely.
Isn’t the Holy Spirit your Helper? Didn’t Jesus say, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever… but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you” (John. 14:16)? The Holy Spirit, who lives in you will help you in every aspect of your life.
Relax You’re Not Alone
So, when you don’t know how or what to pray as you should, remember, the Spirit Himself intercedes for you (through you) with groanings too deep for words. Let Him search your heart, He fully understands the issue, and is in you to help you.
Allow the Spirit of grace and supplication lift your burden, to help you pray, to fill you with joy, and when He lifts you up so you can pray, you’ll Be Encouraged. -JSP
