Illuminating Encounters With God’s Word

Psalm 119:130
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”

The amazing power of God’s word revealed illuminates even the simplest soul. Like a flood, understanding is imparted in the Light of God’s word. The word rendered “unfolding” is pethach, which means an “opening,” “entrance,” or “doorway.” Verse 130 can be accurately rendered; “The uncovering of your words illuminates, giving discernment to the simple.”

The Entryway to God’s Presence

Pethach is used more than forty times when referring to the Tent of Meeting, which is where the materialized Presence of God resided.  Just as the light of God’s presence illuminated the Most Holy Place in the tabernacle;  Light shines on the entrance to the supernatural realm of God’s Presence, whenever the Holy Spirit reveals truth. God’s presence is where perfect truth is found. Imagine that, by grace we’re granted a measure of God’s thoughts behind a particular truth.

God’s word revealed will illuminate the darkest recesses of your heart.  The light from God’s word put into practice, will sharpen your mind, strengthen your soul, and transform your character. To arrive at the intention for which the biblical writers were inspired to write what they did, you must have the Holy Spirit, who originally inspired them, to unfold those words; allowing you to gain entry into the very intention of God’s heart on the matter.

Truth Illuminated

Paul writes the Church at Corinth; “However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?

In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” ( 1 Corinthians 2:9-12)

The unfolding of God’s written word by His Holy Spirit; is the primary way God speaks to us.  When you prayerfully seek God’s intention behind any passage of Scripture, and properly apply that truth, your life will be completely transformed by the power inherent within that truth. God’s power accompanies the words He speaks.

Rightly Handling the Truth

It’s all in how you handle what God has revealed to you, that builds your faith and changes your life.  Accurately handling God’s Word protects the Church from erroneous ideas about His redemptive plan, and our purpose within it.

Paul taught this to Timothy when he wrote; “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Once you’ve firmly established that God Himself has spoken to you through His written word, your entire being will be flooded with the light of genuine understanding.

Spend time in God’s presence waiting for light from Heaven. Allow the unfolding of His word to fill your heart and illuminate your mind. Use what He speaks to you as part of your conversations with Him on the matter.  Your faith will grow as the Holy Spirit unfolds God’s word to you.

Utilize this privileged entryway into the realm of God’s truth unveiled. Prayerfully study His Word together with like-minded believers, anticipate Him unfolding truth to you, and Be Encouraged. -JSP
