 Proverbs 30:5
“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

Here we have the inspired sayings of Agur spoken to Ithiel. The fact that his words were inspired qualifies them as a prophetic utterance. He begins with an edifying statement for troublesome times; “I am weary, God, but I can prevail.”

In this section Agur is saying that God’s Word endures the test of time and eternity. Just as God cannot fail or be overcome so it is with every word that proceeds from His mouth. God’s Word has been battle tested in the storms of life throughout history. The weak have been made strong, the weary revived, victories snatched from the jaws of defeat time and time again. God’s word has been proved to be 100% reliable in all circumstances by those who have prevailed by placing their trust in it.

As Good as Gold

The statement in verse five about God’s word being flawless clearly alludes to the purity of gold and silver after being refined of all dross. This is a reference to Psalm 12:6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.”

The value and staying power of silver and gold makes them solid investments for the future. God’s word have been refined seven times that of the finest precious metals, and being put to the test by people throughout the ages is considered the greatest investment anyone can make.

Gold and silver increase in value over time and the Word of God even more so. People look for worthy investments hoping for a guarantee for their future security. God’s word carries a perfect guarantee for future fulfillment because God Himself is perfectly reliable and trustworthy.

Revealed knowledge is released each time God speaks. You are edified and your faith instantly grows with each Divine utterance. The impartation of God’s Word makes you solid on the inside enabling you to weather the storms of life on solid ground.

In Matthew 7:24-25 Jesus makes it clear that walking in the light of His words are a safeguard against all future storms of life. It is the integrity of a building that makes it safe to dwell in.
