A Supernatural GPS

by John S Picarello

John 16:13
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Never Be Lost Again

I remember the days when maps were a travel necessity. I also remember that once unfolded you’d almost never refold them to their original form. The feeling of charting a course and driving along hoping you were on the right road, made it necessary to stop from time to time to check your progress and gain your bearings. It was always so much easier when you had some one familiar with those roads riding with you. They could tell you where to turn, where the gas stations and good restaurants were, and when we’d all be arriving at our intended destination.

We’re now all familiar with GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System. GPS is an amazing navigational system which tracks our movements on land, sea, and in the air. Using some 30 strategically placed satellites in orbit around the Earth, GPS will monitor direction and speed, in all kinds if weather, anywhere in the world 24 hours a day.  GPS can pinpoint our location anywhere on Earth.  The entire earth has been mapped from space.  One expert has said “now every square inch of planet earth has an address.”

The Church’s GPS

We have a guide for life better than any GPS, who partners with us 24/7, and even directs us every time we pray.  Think of it,  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, reveal to us what God is thinking, and to direct us where we need to go, and even showing us things come.  The guidance and instructions of the Holy Spirit has certainly changed the dynamics of our prayer life, and the direction of our life in general.

The Holy Spirit is monitoring our every movement, tracking each turn, checking our pace of life in all kinds of conditions.  He keeps us on the right road in the will of God, enabling us to pray in line with God’s purposes along the way.  Just as many new vehicles come equipped with GPS already installed, we as new creations in Christ have the Spirit already downloaded within us.

As those satellites are monitoring from above 24/7, and will tell us where we are at any moment anywhere on earth; so is the Holy Spirit constantly teaching, guiding and prompting us in line with God’s direction for us, as well for others when we pray.  As helpful as those satellites are, they are useless to us unless we have that little receiver on in our vehicles. Our heart is like that little GPS device, and will only receive direction from God’s Holy Spirit when we’re open to listen to Him.

Prayer is Our Link to God’s Positioning System

Prayer becomes a powerful tool to us, when we’re following the Holy Spirit’s directions. His gentle promptings will strengthen our spirit, enlighten our mind, and cause our conscience to become sensitive to what God is saying at every turn. Just as any good GPS, God will give us the most direct route, showing us what’s ahead, monitoring our progress along the way.

As we begin to travel with confidence once we’ve become familiar with our GPS devices, So will we live with a growing confidence as our heart gradually becomes attuned to God’s voice guiding us throughout the day.  As we become accustomed to listening and cooperating with the Holy Spirit, we will also live with a growing confidence in His guidance in prayer and intercession as well.

We will travel in the direction of God’s desires on the earth as the Spirit helps us to know what we should be doing and praying for.  Just as that GPS recalculates to redirect us when we miss a turn and don’t know where we are, The Holy Spirit recalculates our praying by making intercession for us and through us “with groanings which cannot be articulated in regular speech” (Romans 8:26), when we don’t know what to pray for. This opens to us a whole new dimension in Spirit led living.

So begin to train yourself to cooperate with our heavenly GPS the Holy Spirit, allow Him to lead you and guide you in life and in prayer, stand in awe of His love and His power, Be confident in His Guidance, Be assured He’ll get you where you need to be, and Be Encouraged! -JSP
