“The Power of Your Story”

Never underestimate the power of your story. There was a television show in the 1950’s set in New York City entitled “The Naked City,” which was inspired by the motion picture from 1948.

The television show opened with the narrator saying “There are eight million stories in the naked city.” The narrator was of course referring to the population of eight million people, each with their own story.
God has done something for you

Mark 5:19-20

Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.”
Here we have the story of a demon possessed man that Jesus had set free. The man wanted to travel with Jesus but the Lord wanted him to go and tell his story to the people.

Notice that the people who heard him were amazed! Talking about the wonderful things that God is doing does have a powerful effect on people.
Faith is contagious and grows when you thank God and tell others what He has done for you. Answered prayers are testimonies that encourage those who hear them. Never take lightly the powerful impact that your answers to prayer will have on others when they hear you tell about how God came through for you.
Your story can strengthen Faith
Psalm 105:1

“Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done…” Many years ago churches would hold meetings just so the people could tell what God was doing for them.

After the testimonies they would spend time praising God together for what He had done. Many churches still hold Testimony meetings today, they are a way of keeping people focused on the continued activity of the Holy Spirit in their midst.

Hearing people from your own church tell their story of how God saved or healed them, or answered their prayer strengthens the faith of those who hear it and encourages those telling it.
Your Story is a part of victorious living
Whenever you share a testimony you are magnifying God and demonstrating the devil’s defeat.

Revelation 12:11 Says“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…” Churches that allow their people to tell what God is doing usually have stronger faith and enthusiasm for the things of God than churches that don’t.

Prayer meetings become the centerpiece of churches that freely magnify God’s wonder working power among them. The atmosphere becomes charged with the tangible Presence of the Holy Spirit when God is being glorified by His people.

Developing a culture of Thanksgiving and Praise within the Church will always spill over into the community… God’s goodness is contagious!
Spread the Joy!
John 16:24 “…Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be full.”
When God answers your prayers tell the people around you about it because your testimonies are a force for good in the world.

Don’t ever underestimate the power of telling others what God is doing for you. Let your answered prayers cause you to thank and praise God, and allow others to rejoice with you by telling them about it.

God is magnified whenever you give your testimony. You need to tell your story because others need to hear it.

You glorify God when you tell your story and others glorify Him when they’re encouraged to seek Him all the more for hearing you.

Your testimony allows others to see evidence of God working in their midst. The excitement and faith that comes from the testimonies of people you know is absolutely contagious.

Think of the powerful times of Thanksgiving and Praise that will permeate your church if everyone glorified God by telling their stories. Use your answered prayers to tell others what God is doing for you and Be Encouraged. -JSP
