Remember, God Remembers

Psalm 119:49

“Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.”

Here we have an example of the Psalmist aligning himself with God’s own words in the midst of troublesome times. He calls to remembrance a promise made, and reminds God that He has encouraged him and given him hope by it.

The Psalmist’s trust in God’s faithfulness has given him reasonable expectations that God will indeed keep His word. You and I will be treated no different than the Psalmist because God plays no favorites, he keeps his promises to all. 

A Book of Remembrances

We’re told of such a book in Malachi 3:16 “Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.”

Do you possess a deep sense of reverence for God? Do you honor his holy name in your thoughts and words? If you do, you have your own book of remembrance in the Presence of The Lord.

Why not record the breakthroughs and the promises He has given you. This has been a time honored practice by God’s people throughout history.

Moses, Solomon, and Jehoshaphat are excellent examples of people who reminded God of His promises in prayer. You too can plead the promises before God in prayer reminding Him of the words He has spoken to you.

God Remembers

God is absolutely faithful and will never go back on any word He has spoken, How could He? Hasn’t God told Jeremiah; “…I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled” Jeremiah 1:12? He invites you to remind Him of His promises. He encourages you to recall what He’s said and done for you knowing it will give you hope and strengthen your faith.

Psalm 119:89 tells us that “God’s Word is forever settled in the heavens,” and He will not go back on a single promise. His plans and purposes are settled, and He has no need to recalculate or rethink any of them.

If God has promised you anything He intends to fulfill it, you can bank on it. You may forget a promise but God does not.

Search the Scriptures and you will come across many instances where God reminded people of promises He had made to them when they were in difficult times, assuring them that He has not forgotten His promises.

So write your own book of remembrances. Call to mind the promises God has made to you. Search and see if There’s any conditions you haven’t fulfilled, then act accordingly.

Read whatever you record in that book when you’re going through difficult times. Go to God in prayer and remind Him of His promises to you, place your trust in His faithfulness, let His promises give you hope for the future, and Be Encouraged. -JSP
