Great Promises Indeed

2 Peter 1:3-4
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

Peter opens his letter encouraging believers with a greeting of grace and peace, and proceeds to tell them that by God’s divine power they have been given all the things necessary for “a godly life;” Through His glory and goodness believers have received God’s very great and precious promises.

All the blessings that follow are made possible through the power of God’s written Word. Probably the most astounding statement in the Scriptures concerning God’s promises is “that through them you may participate in the divine nature.”

Divine Access

As a believer you have received a most powerful gift and been granted access to God through these “very great and precious promises.” God’s promises are the keys that unlock the doors to the treasures of heaven’s storehouse. God is sharing His treasures and His nature with you!

Divine access comes through God’s Word. It is only through God’s Word that you can know and understand Him with any degree of certainty. God’s Word enables you to believe, and to agree with Him. You are able to move forward with a high level of confidence knowing you are in His will through revealed knowledge that you’ve received from what is written. You are made aware of your standing with God, and of your own privileged position of sharing in His divine nature through knowledge gained from His Word.

God’s Word gives your prayers a hearing before His throne. The promises you’ve received from Him are the foundation of every request you make. In fact it is the fulfillment of God’s many promises throughout the Old Testament that has brought you back into His family. It is those very promises that sent Christ to redeem you granting you access to God’s Presence and His nature.

Divine Power

You have influence with heaven when you pray. Your requests do not rest upon any opinions or ideas of your own, but upon the living words originally spoken by God Himself.  To be given the right to ask and the certainty of being heard and receiving an answer, grants you power to effect change.

God’s power flows via His great and precious promises through proper praying, directly into the world to accomplish His will on earth as it is in Heaven. Prayer is actually Divine Power released through a divine partnership with His people based on what He has already spoken.

Consider Isaiah 55:11 “…my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” And Jeremiah 1:12 “…for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”

Having such great and precious promises granting you Divine power and access, as well as giving you the privilege to share in God’s Divine nature, I encourage you to begin speaking the Word to God with confidence. Use the access you’ve been granted to pray big prayers. Be confident in God’s power to effect change in your life and in the world around you, and Be Encouraged. – JSP
