A Needed Visit From Above

Zechariah 12:10
“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.”

Here God encourages His people with the promise of deliverance and the peace and security that accompanies it. Zechariah has prophesied an outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit of grace and supplication, bringing a renewing of thoughts and forgiveness for sins. This is an awakening that has been initiated by God pouring out His Spirit upon His people, who are in desperate need of a revival.

The Spirit and Revival

The Church has often found itself in this same condition throughout history, and crying out to God for deliverance has time and time again received the same outpouring of a spirit of grace and supplication – ushering in a much needed revival.

Verse 12 above actually reads “a spirit of grace and supplication” although it is the Holy Spirit who grants this. The word spirit here is “rûach” indicating the moving of air, it also means “breath” or “wind.” In this passage the word is being used to indicate empowerment.

The word “supplication” in this context carries the idea of a people pouring out their heart for God “to be gracious” and “to show favor.” This is an excellent picture of the powerful influence a supernatural visitation from heaven can have upon a people who cry out for it.

A Supernatural Visitation

This is a supernatural empowering of a person or persons from above and working within, reaching to the very seat of their emotions. By stirring their feelings and their passions, their willpower is motivated to take action. Their first action here is repentance (change of  mind) to be realigned with God and His purpose.

How important is this supernatural help form God’s Spirit enabling our spirit to pray as we should. We know from Paul the apostle’s writing that the Spirit helps us to pray in just this manner. The Church as a whole must know how much it need the Holy Spirit’s power and influence in prayer during troublesome times.

Seek God for a mighty outpouring of The Holy Spirit upon your own life, your family, and your Church. The Church needs His supernatural empowerment, teaching, and guidance. He is sent to help the Church in prayer, dispensing grace for the welfare of the cities.

Ask for a fresh outpouring of a spirit of grace and supplication and do not stop until you receive it. Pray for the Spirit’s leading. Renew and intimate relationship with God and be realigned with His purpose, Be filled with The Spirit, allow His promises for revival to transform your thinking, and Be Encouraged. -JSP
